BANGOR – With Christmas just days away, many people are getting ready to make the journey to visit friends and family.
And this year you could have lots of company when you travel.
“It’s going to be the busiest it’s been since 2009.” said AAA spokesman Chris Hill. “The economy is on the upswing, improving greatly so there’s an uptick in consumer spending.gas prices are about a quarter if not more less per gallon than they have been in years past so that’s driving people to get out and go visit family.” he added.
A record setting 4.4 million New Englanders are expected to travel this holiday season. Triple AAA suggests reducing distractions, keeping an eye on road conditions and giving yourself plenty of time to get there.
Hill said “If you are traveling by vehicle on the roads you are going to have to make sure you pack your patience because it’s going to be a busy few days.”
Many people will take to the skies to get to their holiday destination. The Transportation Safety Administration said there’s an easy way to get through security with your gifts.
TSA Officer Pam Dobbins stated “We encourage you not to wrap them. We encourage you to put them in a colorful, festive bag. We don’t want to unwrap your presents just like you don’t want us to.”
Those homemade goodies are special but they can be a security problem. “Allowed to take with you. However if you have those larger containers again I stress those should be in the checked bags underneath.” added Dobbins.
