HAMPDEN – They’ll be hitting the pool in Hampden Wednesday for a great cause.
The 10th annual Susan Abraham swimathon will be held at the Lura Hoit pool. It’s an effort to raise money for swimming lessons for children who may otherwise go without. It will also raise money for the Hampden Academy swim team to help it cover expenses. They’ll have 20 minutes to swim as much as possible.
Board member Mike Jellison said “Mainly the Hampden swim team gets sponsors and they try to go as fast as they can and get in as many laps in. And the money goes to all these worthy causes.”
The swimathon is being held in honor of Susan Abraham, a lifeguard at the pool who was killed in a tragic car accident.
People wishing to donate to the scholarship effort are asked to call the Lura Hoit pool in Hampden.
