BREWER – The Eastern Maine Development Corporation celebrated its 2016 champions.
They held their annual meeting yesterday and named Ellsworth the community of the year.
The Northern Penobscot Region III was also honored for their work of educating displaced mill workers.
In 2016 EMDC worked with over 160 companies to add jobs to the region’s economy and helped almost three hundred people find jobs.
Although the champions are honored this year, their efforts didn’t happen over night.
Ellsworth City Manager David Cole said “Certainly this kind of recognition reflects years of effort on the part of a community pulling together charting a common vision and going after it.”
Added Mary Hawkes from Region III “It feels awesome to be recognized for the wonderful work that has been done at region three to provide training for the displaced mill workers from our region.”
Specialty sweets was also recognized by EMDC for their work with the community.
