GORHAM (WGME) – Now an update on a tragic car accident earlier this week in Gorham.
One of the three girls, critically injured in a crash, has died. Paige Piawlock was a 5th grader at Narragansett Elementary School. Her father was killed instantly in the crash on Monday.
More on the continuing investigation, and how the community is dealing with the loss.
Many of the parents WGME spoke with at the school did not want to go on camera but said their children knew Paige Piawlock, who was a 5th grader. They said it’s tough explaining to their children that their classmate wont be coming back.
Friends of the family said Paige succumbed to her injuries late last night.
A cross for both her and her father Joe now marks the spot of the accident they were involved in along Route 202 Friends and family also left flowers and wrote messages saying how loved they were.
Police said the accident happened Monday morning when Piawlock’s wife Yvonne lost control of their SUV and collided with a dump truck that was heading the opposite way.
Joe piawlock was pronounced dead at the scene and the three young girls in the back seat… One of which was paige… Were sent to the hospital in critical condition.
Officer said Yvonne escaped with less serious injuries.
Gorham police stated the cause is still under investigation but they believe icy and snowy roads were a definite factor in this crash.
WGME has not been able to get an update on Paige’s sister’s condition or the other young girl who was injured but we were last told they were still in the hospital.
The school district said grief counselors will be available throughout the district to help with anyone coping with this difficult loss.
