ELLSWORTH – An Ellsworth man is facing charges after police said he accidentally shot his ex-girlfriend in the head.
Ellsworth police said it happened Saturday when Lawrence Romer, 47, was visited by his ex-girlfriend at his home on Mariaville Road.
The two were messing around with a handgun, that they thought was unloaded, when it was accidentally fired and hit the woman in the head.
She was taken by life-flight to Eastern Maine Medical Center and has been released.
Romer was arrested and charged with aggravated reckless conduct and aggravated assault, but the charges may be changed.
He is being held at the Hancock County Jail.
