MILLINOCKET – The residents of three northern Maine towns are embracing a cancer patient’s Christmas wish.
East Millinocket’s Becky Van Wormer told people she’d like to see the spirit of Christmas descend on the Katahdin Region. So people got together and decorated a vacant store front as well as a jewelry store and the new headquarters for the Katahdin Woods and Water National Monument.
Volunteer Susan D’Alesandro said “This was very important to her to have the whole tri-town area have christmas spirit like we all remember as kids. Well that thankfully energized the whole tri-town region. And lots of volunteers came together and we had the tree-lighting in three towns.”
One of the benefits of the decorating effort is that some people believe it may revive Millinocket’s former nickname, Magic City.
