AUGUSTA– Legislation has yet to start, but Republicans and Democrats have already started disagreeing.
Republicans held a press conference in the State House Thursday, to push forward legislation on a Psychiatric building, and demand this be put on the agenda before January. Democrats say they need more information.
Republicans are looking to push forward their legislation of revamping a Psychiatric Facility in Augusta, but are already seeing push back from the Democrats.
Republican leader Ken Fredette says they’ve been transparent about the privately funded 3 million dollar project, saying the Forensic Rehabilitation Facility will target criminals who need mental health services, but not hospitalization, and that Democrats are only trying to go against Governor LePage.
But it appears Republicans and Democrats can agree on one thing, they want to keep the building in Augusta.
Sara Gideon, Speaker of the House says they want to continue with the facility, and that they will have their first scheduled meeting this January, and she says it’ll be at the top of her list.
