BANGOR – Union workers said they’re cautiously optimistic that a mammoth telecommunications deal will have a positive impact on Maine.
Consolidated Communications Holdings Incorporated announced it plans to purchase Fairpoint Communications by the middle of next year. It’s all part of the corporations plan to expand its fiber optic network into northern New England.
The unions representing Telecom Workers in Maine released a statement saying employees and the quality of service has suffered since Fairpoint took over for Verizon in 2008. They hope Consolidated will work with the unions to create and maintain good jobs and really improve the quality of service customers deserve.
