CASCO- One man is in critical condition and two are dead following a violent string of incidents that began in Casco.
It ended when a shooting suspect died in a gun battle with police.
It all began Saturday night when authorities say 59 year old Norman Strobel went to a home belonging to an ex girlfriend in Casco and announced he was from the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department.
Police say he opened fire when the two home occupants saw him through the window, striking 32 year old Jason Almeida four times.
He’s now in critical condition.
The violence continued hours later in the town of Naples when police went to a mobile home where Strobel was living.
Police say they saw a man through a window covered in blood and decided to force their way in to help him.
That’s when Strobel appeared, and died when he got into a gun battle with police.
Police learned the man who they saw through the window was also dead.
They believe 55 year old Richard Dickema had also been shot by Strobel.
Strobel recently moved into the home owned by Dickema, and police believe Dickema was with Strobel during the shooting in Casco.
“There’s no way to tell whether he was forced to go or went willingly. We’ll probably never have that answer,” said state police spokesperson Steve McCausland.
Police say Strobel had a long criminal history and has most recently violated a protection order taken out by his former girlfriend.
The deputies involved in the shooting of Strobel are on paid administrative leave while authorities investigate the incident.
