MILBRIDGE - A man from knox remains in jail today.

54 year old linwood doughty  is charged with aggravated assault for an attack that happened late saturday night.

According to milbridge police chief lewis pinkham, doughty had a relationship with the alleged victim and showed up at her home unannounced.

Police say he broke in and attacked her with an axe.

She managed to fight him off, but had to be treated at a local hospital for injuries.

Pinkham was arrested sunday and according to district attorney matt foster, he waived his right to a hearing yesterday which means bail couldn't be set.

He'll make his first court appearance on tuesday.

Doughty also received a 10 year sentence after pleading no contest to attempted murder charges for attacking another woman in 1995.

In that case, officials says doughty tried to kill a former girlfriend by shooting her, but she also survived and managed to escape to call for help.
