ORONO – Every 7th and 8th grade student in Maine gets a learning device in school whether it’s a laptop or an Ipad.
Tuesday they got a chance to use them in a different way.
Digital, hands on storytelling was the focus on a conference held at the University of Maine in Orono. Author Donn Fendler told the story of how he was lost on Katahdin for nine days in 1939.
The students used their devices to bring his story to life.
Mike Muir, Maine department of education said “So much of what they do with their devices in school is just straight academics work. This is a chance to learn how to create and design things that are a little more fun.”
More than 900 students from 50 schools around the state participated in todays conference.
