ELLSWORTH – People from the EMMAUS Homeless Shelter have been seeing a decrease in funds and donations. They took it upon themselves to raise money by throwing a St.Patrick’s Day themed fund raiser.
“We’re raising money for the shelter to help with those that suffer the most in our community. The proceeds will go towards funding.” said Alice Grindle, EMMAUS assistant director.
The event included a live performance by Big Moose Band. Those involved say volunteers played a big part in the night’s success.
“They had a good volunteer base. Which is awesome. We actually had to ask people not to come because we had plenty of people who can come and help.” added Brian Hain the Property Manager.
Although this is EMMAUS’s first year hosting the event, they say it’s had great results.
“It’s just a good event to bring money into the shelter. This is the first time that they done it. We’re hoping this will lay the ground works for next year, that the word of mouth spreads, that next year will be even better.” stated Emily Barveau a volunteer.
The music was a large part of the event, catching the attention of people across the street.
“I mean everybody loves to go out for St.Patrick’s Day, everyone loves the music of course it’s a way to bring people out to support a great cause.” contined another volunteer Tracy McGarr.
I think it’s just have been a great turn out and that next year we will have a better response to it.
