PORTLAND – Here in our state experts say one in four children in Maine are going hungry. And a chef is now working to help families learn to feed themselves on a tight budget.
Chef James Tranchemontagn at “The Frog and Turtle” restaurant was at the Salvation Army in Portland Monday.. And all he brought was 50 dollars worth of food enough he said to feed a family of four for a whole week. It’s all part of “tools for life.” That’s a program designed for people who want to learn about how to succeed.
“We utilize all fresh ingredients and just make meals from scratch instead of just buying stuff that’s already pre-made. It’s very healthy, it’s very natural.” said Chef James.
The program also includes classes on budgeting, stress management and other topics. The classes are free.
