One of the donations 10 million dollars, the largest single gift in the school's 161 year history. The funds will be used to enhance the school's curriculum and faculty. It's the first major expansion of the faculty at Bates College in a decade.
"So, we will begin next year to search for the leader of the program in digital and computational studies. Once that leader is here, that person will search for the two other positions, and then we will begin next year to search for a new professor in economics and probably neurosciences, bio-chemistry maybe one more year after that." said college president Clayton Spencer.
The funding comes from endowment gifts, which means it is permanent funding and will continue for generations.
