NEWRY – Some people are excited to look ahead to winter. The Sunday River Ski Resort opens with little snow and only a few open trails.
We may still be 2 two months from winter but there’s snow and skiing at Sunday River. 150 snow guns have been making snow since Saturday allowing Sunday River to open about 2 weeks early.
“It was very cold coming into this weekend, we saw what was going to happen with the temperatures and we thought yeah lets do it! ” Sarah Devlin, Dir. Of Communications, Sunday River
These skiers and boarders are happy they did. Doug Pemberton and Heather Galvin were first in line. The two were at the lift 1 hr and half before the trails even opened.
“So excited. We’ve been waiting since well May 3rd for this.” Doug Pemberton, Snowboarder
“It’s never too early for snow!” Heather Galvin, Snowboarder
The T2 Trail and a few others are the only ones open for early skiing but the mountain is making snow on 7 trails. Snow makers say thanks to the cold temperatures, the conditions are great! But still for a skilled skier.
“It’s definitely better for advanced skiers at the moment but hopefully we’ll get some runs in here get in for everyone.” Will Bernstein, Snowmaking Manager
“It’s really fun to be open this early in the season, get back on the hill and let our guests and pass holders get a taste of what winters going to be like!” Sarah Devlin, Director of Communications
