NATIONWIDE – While no Maine players were drafted, Micah Wright was invited to rookie mini camp in Arizona and two Black Bears signed deals with NFL teams.
Sterling Sheffield confirmed he signed a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday..
The former UMaine linebacker told Hero Sports he talked with around 25 teams in total and met with the Bengals before they ended up signing him.
He lead the team in tackles last season and he’ll look to battle for a roster spot next month with Cincinnati.
Maine Football announced on social media that quarterback turned tight end Drew Belcher signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Arizona Cardinals.
Belcher took the transition from QB in stride, accounting for five total touchdowns and two hundred plus receiving yards in the past two seasons.
The Massachusetts native proved himself as a threat and blocking receiver in his time at Maine, clearly impressing scouts at Maine’s pro day.
With the free agent deal he won’t be guaranteed much of anything compared to those drafted, but he will get a chance to prove himself at training camp in May.
