The 12th Annual Epic Finale 5K kicked off at 10 a.m.
Runners from age eight all the way to age 76 braved the frigid temperatures as they snaked through the city.
Bangor resident and participant Ashley Wilson stated "It was cold...it was brutal. Going up State Street hill was where we started and it felt like my lungs were closing in. It was very, very, very difficult to get past that point. But once you get toward the hospital and toward the river you kind of cool down a little bit. Your kind of got a breath of fresh air. That was kind of nice."
Although it was bitterly cold, Ashley said she can't wait until next year's race.
And as a bonus, Happy Endings Martini, Tapas and Dessert Bar opened early and had a sweet celebration waiting for the runners.
