Zen/Christian Dialogue

Date: Wed. 24 Jan, 2018 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Duration: 1 Hour

Is there a role for religion in today’s volatile American culture? Is modern Christianity moving further away from or closer toward the teachings of Jesus Christ? And while many in the West are turning toward Eastern practices such as Buddhism, is it the teachings of the historical Buddha that are actually being sought, or simply an alternative to America’s “default” religions? Are these traditions compatible with each other? How can they help us navigate societal ills like inequality, violence, and discrimination?Rob Benson, pastor of the Bar Harbor Congregational Church, and Laura Neal, a teacher in the True Nature Zen Center, invite you to join them in exploring these questions. While neither claims to speak for the entirety of their respective traditions. each has a long history of practice, study and teaching which has been greatly enhanced by dialogue, especially with those of different experiences. People of all religious and spiritual backgrounds, including none, are welcome to participate. All that’s required is an inquiring mind!
