ORONO – UMaine’s fall sports seasons have already been postponed to the spring, but the future of its winter sports are still in question.
UMaine athletic director Ken Ralph said only fall sports were suspended, not winter sports that start during the fall semester.
Several schools around the country have postponed all sports during the fall semester, but Maine is actively discussing ways it can play hockey, basketball, swimming and diving in the fall.
“Those groups are actively searching for alternatives on their own, as well. There’s a national group of hockey coaches that would like to find a solution nationally for the game of ice hockey for men and women so that they can all stay on the same page. It’s a relatively small group of only 60 schools so there’s a good chance that they would be able to come to some consensus,” said Ralph.
