ORONO – All three assistant coaches under Richard Barron have left the program since the beginning of July.
Two of the assistants that came in with head coach Richard Barron when he was hired in 2018, Kevin Reed and Igor Vrzina, left the program at the beginning of July, and now the third looks to have a new opportunity.
Edniesha Curry has reportedly accepted a position with the Portland Trail Blazers.
She was hired under Barron in 2018, making her the only female full-time assistant coach in NCAA Division I men’s basketball.
Her time at Maine started at 2015 with Barron on the women’s basketball staff, working as an assistant coach until 2017. Curry then took part in the NBA Assistant Coaches Program, participating in the NBA Draft Combine and G League Showcase. She also worked under San Antonio Spurs assistant coach Becky Hammon during their Summer League games.
Hammon interviewed for the Trail Blazers head coach opening.
Curry returns to Oregon, where she finished her college career winning the WNIT with the Ducks. She would spend two seasons in the WNBA with Phoenix and Los Angeles, and played five seasons in Europe.
She joins a staff under new head coach Chauncey Billups that includes former Wizards head coach Scott Brooks, and former Lakers assistant Roy Rogers.
