OLD TOWN – The first Gabrielle Hope Sherman 5K race was held at Old Town High School on Saturday.
All proceeds went towards the Gabrielle Hope Sherman scholarship fund, which gives scholarships to local schools. An Old Town High School grad, Sherman recently passed away after losing her battle with cancer.
Event organizers say the turnout was overwhelming as close to 250 racers from as far as Georgia came out.
“Absolutely blown away by the amount of support that was always given and again we’re there again its the amount of people that have shown up today for this race that have tolerated a first time race we’re trying to put together and it went so smooth it went so great it’s just another piece of her story. It’s amazing,” volunteer, Kalib Carmichael, said.
