ORONO – Umaine women’s basketball finished its regular season at 16-2 after an 82-53 over UNH.
Heading into Saturday’s contest, the two teams had split their season series dating back to the beginning of January.
On Saturday, Maine led for nearly the entire game, fueled by a 17-0 run in the second quarter to take control in the first half.
Blanca Millan and Anne Simon each scored 21 points to pace the Black Bears, while the entire team shot 47% from the field.
“I want our team to really appreciate and take a step back and enjoy the fact that they are regular season champions, that they went 16-2, that they’ve gone through a lot this season and they have a lot to be proud of,” said Head Coach Amy Vachon after the game.
The Black Bears hold the No. 1 seed headed into the America East playoffs. With that, they will earn an automatic bid into the semifinals which are set to be played on March 7 in Orono.
