Maine Women's Soccer Wins at Home

ORONO, Maine -- The University of Maine women's soccer team defeated UMass Lowell 3-1 on Thursday afternoon in Orono, Maine. The Black Bears got goals from Jordan Pellerin (Waterville, Maine), Charlene Achille (Longueuil, Quebec) and Maggie Malone (Halifax, Nova Scotia) in the victory. Maine improves to 6-3-4 on the season and 3-0-1 in America East play. 
Maine took a 1-0 lead at 5:41 when Eve L'Abbe (Laval, Quebec) crossed the ball from the right side of the goal into the box. Pellerin was alone in the box and redirect the ball into the goal for her second goal of the season. 
Maine took the 1-0 into halftime. 


UMass Lowell tied the game early in the second half on an own goal by Maine.

The Black Bears regained the lead at 48:13 when Nikki Misener (Burlington, Ontario) passed to Charlene Achille (Longueuil, Quebec) in the box. Both UMass Lowell defenders were on Misener and Achille was able to shoot the ball into the net for her second goal of the season.  

Maine extended its lead to 3-1 at 77:10. Joanie L'Abbe (Laval, Quebec) shot the ball towards the goal and Malone, stationed on the far post, redirected the ball into the goal for her second tally of the season. 

Maine finished the game with a commanding 27-6 edge in shots on goal over UMass Lowell. The River Hawks are playing their first season in Division I. 

Maine keeper Lauren Swant (Oakville, Ontario) made a pair of saves and improves to 6-3-3 on the season. 

Jane Hatzikonstantis made 10 saves for the River Hawks. 

Maine returns to action on Sunday, Oct. 13 when it hosts Binghamton at 12 noon at Alumni Field in Orono.
