When the Senior League World Series left Bangor a couple years ago so did local interest in senior league baseball.

There was only one senior league team playing locally last year, but once it was announced that a senior league regional tournament was coming to Bangor interest picked back up.

This year there were four leagues of teams playing senior league ball and this week four teams, Holbrook, Bronco, Bangor and Old Town, are vying for a chance to host the upcoming east regional. Tournament director, Mike Brooker, is excited to see high level senior league ball back in Bangor.

"They're (the kids) very excited they have been since the beginning of the season. I think that all the kids understand and that's why there's greater participation this year that this is a unique opportunity for them," Brooker said.

The east regional tournament is from July 18-24 at Mansfield Stadium.
