Hundreds run in Walter Hunt Memorial 3K, Sub 5 awards track scholarship

BANGOR/BREWER - The race is known as "The Fastest Road Race in Maine."

The race takes the same route as the Bangor/Brewer Fourth of July Parade, and is mostly downhill.


Runners from ages eight to 82 ran on Thursday morning, including many local track and cross country athletes.


The overall winner was UMaine track redshirt senior Aaron Willingham, with an 8:50 time.


The female winner was Hampden track and cross country rising senior Helen Shearer.


During the awards ceremony for the race, the Sub 5 Track Club awarded their annual track athlete scholarship for outgoing seniors, to jumper Camille Kohtala, who is scholarship to jump for the University of Alabama in the fall.
