ORONO - Camille Kohtala earned a mix of academic and athletic scholarships to pave her way to Tuscaloosa.

Kohtala officially committed to the University of Alabama late last month on her official visit, but Orono High School celebrated her accomplishments on Wednesday afternoon.

The senior said things are slightly different now that she's committed to being a Division I athlete, "it's a mix of a little bit more pressure but a little bit more relaxed, I know that I don't necessarily need to be so worried about having a huge PR now that it's set in stone, but at the same time when I show up to the meets people know I'm going to Alabama," said Kohtala.

The Kohtala family moved across the country with their father Ed, who was a college basketball coach, but he said growing up in Orono set Camille on the right path, "she's definitely up for the challenge, it will be a little different she's grown up here, we've been fortunate...to have her settle here, and have the roots that she has here will serve her well even on a campus of thirty three thousand kids," said Ed Kohtala.
