ORONO - Last summer Maine womens basketball head coach Amy Vachon knew she would be having an open position on her coaching staff at the end of the season. What she didn't know is how familiar that new hire would be.

Vachon has added former Black Bear, Parise Rossignol as an assistant coach.

“It’s pretty unreal if you would have told me a few years ago we’d be having this conversation right now about me becoming an assistant coach I wouldn’t have believed you,” Rossignol said.

She thought her time as a Black Bear was done, but the 23-year-old is excited to start her next chapter as a member of the Black Bears coaching staff.

“To get this opportunity this early in my career it’s incredible and I’m super thankful for the opportunity,” Rossignol said.

It’s a new challenge for Rossignol as she’ll have to guide a group of Black Bears she just won an America East Championship with.

“Parise is a special person and she’s a different kind of person and you know. I have no doubt that she’ll be able to do that and she’ll have a different relationship with them which is really cool too,” Vachon said.

Anyone would be nervous for a brand new job, but there are no butterflies for Rossignol. After all, there’s no place like home.

“I’m not really nervous honestly. Maybe if it was anyone else other than the coaching staff we have, but just the relationship that I have with them. They know there’s going to be a learning curve and you know I’m just really excited to learn and grow with them,” Rossignol added.
