MULLICA HILL, NJ - Sheffield is looking to be the second former Black Bear to be drafted in a year.

Sterling Sheffield is back home with his family in New Jersey in the closing days before the draft begins. He had previously trained out in California at a facility owned by Kobe Bryant before coming back home and training there.

Sheffield was last in Orono performing for one of the largest contingents of NFL scouts assembled for Pro Day at UMaine.

A number of different mock drafts and predictions have him going in the seventh round of the draft, but he doesn't care where he goes as long as he gets an opportunity to compete, "I don't have any expectations out here, right now I'm just trying to get to a team, get to a rookie mini camp, and just get started right away..."

Sheffield finished his time as a Black Bear as an FCS All-American, adding an appearance in the NFL Players Association Collegiate Bowl to his resume.

He says he thinks his time in Orono definitely has him ready for whatever's next, "I definitely think that umaine has made the man I am today...Being away from home and having coaches that have helped me..."
