ORONO - As Maine football kicker Kenny Doak's game winning field goal against Villanova sailed through the uprights what seemed to be an eternity finally came to end for the Alfond faithful.

“It kinda just flashed like a millisecond right through,” Doak said.

It’s the biggest kick of his career a 52-yard field goal that no one in blue had any doubt about.

“When he (Doak) hit it I said it was in," Maine head coach Joe Harasymiak said.

“I said 'coach i’m going to make this' and kinda walked by him and he says 'you go get that,'” Doak said.

It’s been 43 years since a Black Bear hit a field goal that long, Jack Leggett did so in 1975.

“It was definitely nice for him to reach out and just congratulate me and just told me to keep it going and i’m just looking just to keep moving forward,” Doak said.

So what’s next for Doak and Maine? A high powered offense in the University of Rhode Island this weekend.

“Our main goal is to beat the north and if we beat the north we’re going to be in a good position to make the postseason. So that’s what our team stresses,” Doak added.
