Maine men's basketball looking forward to Costa Rica trip

ORONO - The 2018-2019 Maine men's basketball squad is brand new, from top to bottom. Seven new players and a completely new coaching staff.

To get a head start on the inevitable preseason growing pains the team is heading down to Central America.


It's no vacation though, the Black Bears will head down to Costa Rica next week to play against international talent, including teams from Canada and Costa Rica.


The team will also participate in community service and bonding exercises during the week. For head coach Richard Barron, the trip is the perfect way to kick off the new era.


"So much is kind of vocabulary and learning new words and expression as a coach getting to know my expectations. Expectations of the staff. All that is something that puts us a month ahead otherwise of where we would have been otherwise without the trip," Barron said.
