ORONO - With a plethora of new players to display, the University of Maine women's soccer team may have an uphill battle ahead in America East.

The Black Bears were ranked eighth in the preseason America East coaches poll, notching 18 total points. New Hampshire comes in first with 57 total points and four first place votes, while Stony Brook is three points behind alongside one first place vote back. Binghamton and Hartford also registered first place votes.

Even after missing the playoffs last year, Maine remains optimistic with a stacked field ahead.

"We're adding 13 new players to our roster this year. And that's really exciting. And I think with that, it brings a lot of energy to our program. It just creates a lot of excitement," head coach Scott Atherley recently said. "And I think the expectation of our team, of our program, is that we want to challenge for an America East championship. That's our expectation every year.
