HERMON - Winslow girls basketball was in shock a month ago as head coach Lindsey Withee suddenly resigned months after hoisting a gold ball. Now the Black Raiders are getting back in the swing of things as they've found their new head coach.

Maine basketball legend Brenda Beckwith is taking over the program. The team took part in Hermon's annual summer tournament, minus Beckwith though as the new skipper is traveling around the world.

Beckwith became the first Lawrence High School player to score 1,000 points back in 1977. She went on to win a national championship as a player at William Penn College.

Learning from a basketball icon such as Beckwith is rare and something the Black Raiders are thankful for.

"I was like oh my god, I was like I actually get to play for Brenda Beckwith. Her daughter is my best friend and its always like looking up to her. I'm excited, i'm really excited," Winslow guard Weslee Littlefield said.
