HERMON - One of the state's best basketball players is officially headed to play Division II ball.

Hermon boys basketball forward Jacob Godfrey signed on to play for East StroudsbUrg University in Pennsylvania, starting next season. Godfrey, who averaged 12.3 points per game for the Hawks last year, helped carry the team to an undefeated season and a championship in Class B North. He also led Machias to a Class D title a couple of years ago.

"I hate losing more than I like winning at times. I just want to stay competing against competition every day," Godfrey said Thursday. "And this school has a winning history. They went to the Elite Eight last year, so they're going to be competitive next year, and that's the kind of atmosphere I want to be around."
