Finalists for Mr. Maine Baseball named, regional final information

STATEWIDE - Later this month, the winner of the distinction to become "Mr. Maine Baseball 2018" will be unveiled. In preparation, the nine finalists for the award were made public Monday afternoon.



In a release, the Maine High School Baseball Coaches Association revealed the list, detailing each player nominated for the award. They are as followed:

 

1. Grant Hartley – RHP/1B (Edward Little HS): Grant was selected as the Class A North KVAC player of the year.  Grant will attend and play baseball at UMaine-Orono

2. Cameron King—Catcher (Portland HS): Cameron was selected 1st team all SMAA as well as the WMBU catcher of the year.  Cameron will attend and play baseball at Bridgton Academy.


3. Cam Cousins—RHP/SS (Wells HS): Cam was selected as co-WMC Class B player of the year. 1st team all-conference player. Cam will be attending and playing baseball at SMCC in the fall.


4. Brendan Tinsman—Catcher (Cape Elizabeth HS): Brendan was co-WMC Class B player of the year. Brendan will attend and play baseball at Wake Forest University in the fall.


5. Pedro Matos—RHP/SS (Maine Central Institute): Pedro was selected as KVAC Class B North player of the year.  Pedro will attend UMaine-Orono in the fall.


6. Evan Bess—UTILITY -Madison (Bridgeway) HS: Evan was selected as MVC Class C South Player of the year. Evan was a 1st team catcher and pitcher that will attend the UMaine-Orono in the fall.


7. Shane MacNeill—OF (Traip Academy HS): Shane was selected as Class C/D WMC player of the year.  Shane will be attending and playing baseball at Thomas College in the fall.


8. Jacob Bickford—PITCHER (Dexter HS): Jacob was selected as Class C PVC North player of the year. Jacob will attend UMaine-Orono in the fall.


9.  Dean Grass—RHP/SS (Bangor Christian HS): Dean was selected as co-Class D North/South player of the year. Dean is attending Liberty University in the fall.

 

Additionally, the Maine Principals Association revealed the final schedule for the upcoming regional championships for baseball and softball, kicking off Tuesday. They are as followed:

 

Class A North Softball


Skowhegan vs. Oxford Hills (at Winslow) - 3 p.m.


Class A North Baseball


Bangor vs. Oxford Hills (at Augusta) - 5 p.m.


Class C North Softball

Bucksport vs. Narraguagus (at Brewer) - 6:30 p.m.


Class C North Baseball

Houlton vs. Mattanawcook (at Bangor) - 6:30 p.m.

 

On June 13, the matchups round out as:


Class B North Softball


Brewer vs. Oceanside (at Brewer) - 3 p.m.

Class B North Baseball

Ellsworth vs. Brewer (at Bangor) - 6:30 p.m.

Class D North Softball

Southern Aroostook vs. PVHS (at Brewer) - 7 p.m.

Class D North Baseball

Fort Fairfield vs. Bangor Christian (at Bangor) - 3 p.m.

Jon Alba joined ABC 7 and FOX 22 in September of 2015 to serve as sports director and anchor. He is a graduate of Quinnipiac University, where he served as general manager of the school's television station Q30 Television for two years.

During his tenure, Q30 was named "College Television Station of the Year" by the College Media Association in 2014, and picked up additional national award recognition as well. Jon has been acknowledged by the Society of Professional Journalists for his commitment to sports journalism, including his investigative work while covering Quinnipiac Athletics.

Prior to moving to Maine, Jon was a lifelong resident of New Jersey. There, he formed a passion for covering sports, knowing since age 5 he wanted to tell stories for a living.
