DETROIT - Trevor Bates' tenure in the National Football League has been a difficult one, but much like his days in Orono with the Maine Black Bears, Bates is remaining resilient.

The former Maine defensive lineman signed a contract with the Detroit Lions Wednesday, the fourth team he has been under contract with in the NFL so far. Terms of the deal were not immediately disclosed.

Bates was drafted in 2016 by the Indianapolis Colts in the seventh round as a linebacker, and would go on to be part of the New England Patriots and New York Giants practice squads last season. He has yet to play in a regular season NFL contest.
