FAIRFIELD – The Ponies secured their first consecutive state playoff wins after eliminating Lawrence on Wednesday.
No. 5 Foxcroft eliminated No. 4 Lawrence in the Class B North softball quarterfinals with a 2-1 win on Wednesday.
This marks the first time in Foxcroft program history the Ponies have won two consecutive playoff games in a season.
Both pitchers threw five scoreless innings to start the game.
Lawrence, playing its second game in two days, sent out freshman pitcher Sage Reed, who pitched her third no hitter of the season Tuesday against Caribou. Reed would go the distance, recording 10 strikeouts, and giving up three hits.
Ava Rayfield, Foxcroft senior pitcher, would allow five hits and record five strikeouts in the win.
Foxcroft second baseman Sheryl Chase would open the scoring in the sixth inning, scoring her first solo home run of the season.
In the Bulldogs next at-bat, Sarah Poli would put a ball in play, that was misplayed, allowing Lawrence to tie the game at 1-1.
Reed, in her fourteenth inning of work in two days, would load the bases in the seventh inning, and walk in the winning run.
The Ponies will face the winner of No. 1 Old Town vs. No. 8 Winslow in the Class B North semifinals.
