Former UMaine running back passes away overnight Monday

PHILADELPHIA – Police sources confirmed to multiple Philadelphia news outlets that Williams was the victim of an overnight shooting on Monday near the campus of Temple University in north Philadelphia.

Williams played for Maine in the 2016 season after transferring from Temple, as a part of a crowded backfield with Josh Mack.

The New Jersey native came to Maine after sitting out a season with the Owls.

Teammates of Williams at Temple, such as current XFL quarterback PJ Walker, former Maine teammates like Jamil Demby, and Maine head coach Nick Charlton shared thoughts on Williams passing. Williams was 25 years old.
