BANGOR – Before the season began, Dexter softball set its sights on another trip to the Class C State Championship game. On Thursday, they got the job done.
Early on it was a pitching dual between No. 1 Dexter’s Avery Herrick and No. 2 Central’s Kaelyn Parks, but in the fifth inning, the Tigers found their way onto the scoreboard, in part on an RBI from Peyton Grant.
Herrick would secure the complete-game shutout as Dexter went on to capture a 3-0 win and a Class C North title.
“It was definitely nerve-wracking coming into this because we can’t be too confident, but we had to be confident. The defense behind me and us hitting our bats, it worked out perfect and I couldn’t be more thankful,” Herrick said.
No. 1 Dexter will play No. 1 Hall-Dale in the Class C State Championship game on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. from St. Joseph’s College in Standish.
