PORTLAND – The relationship between Boston and Portland on the court was made official Tuesday at the Portland Expo as the Celtics officially announced their purchase of the Maine Red Claws.
Members of the Celtics ownership group and the Red Claws management team were on hand earlier ahead of the Red Claws 11th season in Portland.
Both parties celebrated a more efficient partnership between the two, a better ability to improve players and transfer resources.
During the negotiations of the sale, officials in Worcester openly expressed interest in luring the Red Claws south. But, Celtics principal owner Wyc Gousbeck said the Celtics are committed to making it work in Maine.
“This is Maine, this is Portland, this is where we are, this is where the franchise is,” Grousbeck said.
