BREWER – Today is the day winter sports athletes in Maine have been waiting for since March, the start of the season.
For some its a chance to prove they have what it takes to make varsity, for others it’s their swan song season. Tragically for one team and community, hockey was the last thing on their minds today.
Brewer ice hockey senior, Jordan Parkhurst, was killed Saturday in a car crash.
Another passenger, Dylan Murray, of Bangor was ejected and suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The school had counselors at the school today. In a statement, Brewer school officials said Parkhurst made the community a better place.
Brewer youth hockey is collecting donations for the Parkhurst family, for more information visit its page.
The organization is also asking hockey players to leave sticks on their porches for Parkhurst.
