ORONO – UMaine women’s basketball returned to The Pit on Sunday looking to sweep NJIT on the weekend.
The Black Bears jumped out to an early 20-14 lead after the first quarter and held the Highlanders at bay throughout.
UMaine saw four of its five starters score double-digits, led by Blanca Millan who finished the game with 22 points and seven rebounds.
Maeve Carroll added 14 points and eight assists while Kelly Fogarty went 4-for-7 from three-point range to finish with 12 points. Dor Saar tallied 13 along with eight assists on the way to a 74-51 win for the Black Bears.
“I feel like we’re a really balanced team and all five players on the team can score,” said UMaine Head Coach Amy Vachon. “Obviously, Blanca leads us, I mean there’s no secret there, but that’s why I think it’s really difficult for teams to focus on in her because we have other players who can score.”
With the sweep, UMaine improves to 8-1 on the season. The Black Bears are scheduled to host Vermont next weekend.
