LINCOLN – At the top of Class D north you’ll almost always find Bucksport and Foxcroft, but this year you’ll find a team in third that can compete with them.
“We dont have to line right up and say we’re going to run over you or run through you..we can sometimes be out in space and youre going to have to catch us..,” said coach Pat House.
Mattanawcook has beat every team they’ve played this year except those top two, but they’ve won the rest of their games in fairly convincing fashion, outscoring opponents 279-109.
The key to them hanging around? Their athletes
“Our most impressive feature is how we can spread the field..Alex Brown..me..Deandre and our quarterback Kris Milner..dynamic four right here.. and our line is pretty good too..the way we can spread the field is that they cant block us all at once..we have so many weapons..,” said Caden Spencer-Thompson.
It shows in the scores. Even though they lost to number one and number two, they were a play or two away from winning those two games.
For some of these players though, this game means more than just winning games.
“Football is more than just a game..It teaches you a lot in life and I think our coaching staff and our community has done a great job at just preparing us for the next step and making it a fun experience for us these four years..,” said quarterback Alex Brown.
The Lynx will go into the playoffs in third place in Class D north.
