ORONO – As the season rolls just around the bend, the University of Maine field hockey is expected to among the contenders once more.
UMaine was tabbed as the second team in the East division of America East in the conference’s preseason poll Wednesday. They earned a total of 14 points, picking up two first place votes in the process. Albany topped Maine by one point and one first place vote to take top standing in the division.
Meanwhile, 2017 America East Champion Stanford took home a unanimous selection for first place in the West with all three first place votes.
The Black Bears return five of their top six leaders in points from last year, as they open up their season officially Aug. 24 against Holy Cross.
