Armstrong, who was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles and banned from Olympic competition, has told antidoping officials and those close to him that he hopes the admission will allow him to resume his athletic career, the Times is reporting.

Once one of the most celebrated athletes in the world, Armstrong, 41, has spent the past few years denying any wrongdoing during his career despite the mounting evidence to the contrary. The Times also reported that supporters of Armstrong’s charitable foundation – Livestrong – have pleaded with Armstrong to admit to doping so he could help the organization avoid further damage.
