Zedric Joseph was arrested yesterday in Georgia and charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man in West Palm Beach, Florida. However the former Black Bears' criminal history here in Maine dates back to 2011.
Joseph transferred to the university from Erie Community College in New York that same year.
In October, university police first came into contact with Joseph, questioning him in connection to a broken window at Hancock Hall. From that point until November 2012, Joseph had a total of five similar run-ins with university police, though none of those instances resulted in charges being filed.
Then, on December 17th, 2012, Joseph was arrested by campus police and charged with domestic violence assault, assault, and disorderly conduct. While the assault charges were dropped, Joseph pled guilty to disorderly conduct and was sentenced to 48 hours jail time. He also recieved an interim suspension from UMaine before undergoing a disciplinary hearing -- the outcome of which is confidential. His brushes with law enforcement didn't end there. This past November, Orono police responded to a local pizza place, where employees say Joseph had voiced some threatening remarks.
In the end, no charges were filed.
