Class A East Girls Champ Oxford Hills Prepares for States

PORTLAND - Continuing our trip through Eastern Maine to check in with the teams representing the region in the State Finals this weekend, next up is Oxford Hills.

In Class A, the Oxford Hills girls team is looking to score its first State Championship on Saturday. The Vikings will face the top seed in the West, McAuley, also the three-time defending state champs. During this year's run, Oxford Hills has already knocked off the #1 seed in the East, Edward Little, but can they do it again against a Lion team that is 84-3 over this remarkable 4 year run?

Coaches and players say they can. "You're in a State Championship game so you expect to see the best competition, and that's what we've got," said Head Coach Nate Pelletier. "I think we do actually match up fairly well with them. And the way we've been playing lately, you know, I think the girls feel like they can beat anybody."

Senior forward Brooke Murch was also confident in her team's capabilities: "We played them in preseason and I mean I think there's definitely a chance we could beat -- I know there's a chance we could beat them, and we're all ready to take it on!"

The Girls Class A State Championship game tips off at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland.
