PALM BEACH, Fla. - Following a guilty verdict in a 2014 murder trial, former UMaine running back Zedric Joseph learned his fate in a Florida court.

Joseph was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday, less than two months after he was found guilty of first-degree murder.

Now 26 years old, Joseph's time with the UMaine football team ended in 2014 after reports that he broke into his former girlfriend's apartment in Florida, then killed the man who was with her at the time.

In addition to the life sentence, he was also given 15 years for a count of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for hurting his ex, and 35 years for a count of burglary while armed.

Joseph came to Orono in 2011 as a community college transfer, sat out one season, then scored twice in 2013 before breaking his leg early in UMaine's first home game.
