Bangor sweeps PVC-EMITL Championships

ORONO - The Bangor Rams winter track and field squads showed up big time Friday afternoon, capturing the PVC Eastern Maine Indoor Track League Championships at the University of Maine.

 

The boys tallied 68 total points, with MDI finishing seven behind. Brewer and Hampden Academy followed immediately thereafter. The Rams were aided by a fast start in the 4x800 Meter Relay, with Henry Pilot, Jared Willette, Patrick Fraser and Gabe Coffey tallying a time of 8:44.41 to earn the early victory for Bangor. Hampden Academy's Paul Casavant was named Boys Outstanding Performer after logging a mile time of 4:31.81.

 

Bangor's girls team notched 81 points to earn the win, beating MDI's 70 points. Old Town, Hampden Academy, George Stevens and Orono rounded out the Top 6. The Trojans' Tia Tardy took home Girls Outstanding Performer.

Jon Alba joined ABC 7 and FOX 22 in September of 2015 to serve as sports director and anchor. He is a graduate of Quinnipiac University, where he served as general manager of the school's television station Q30 Television for two years.

During his tenure, Q30 was named "College Television Station of the Year" by the College Media Association in 2014, and picked up additional national award recognition as well. Jon has been acknowledged by the Society of Professional Journalists for his commitment to sports journalism, including his investigative work while covering Quinnipiac Athletics.

Prior to moving to Maine, Jon was a lifelong resident of New Jersey. There, he formed a passion for covering sports, knowing since age 5 he wanted to tell stories for a living.
