Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (SportsNetwork.com) - Top seed Dominika Cibulkova was an easy second-round winner Thursday at the Malaysian Open tennis event.
The diminutive Australian Open runner-up pasted 2012 Kuala Lumpur champion Su-Wei Hsieh, of Taipei, 6-1, 6-2 at Bukit Kiara Equestrian and Country Resort.
The Slovakian Cibulkova will meet sixth-seeded Zarina Diyas, of Kazakhstan, in Friday's quarterfinals.
Third-seeded and defending champion Karolina Pliskova moved into the quarters by blitzing China's Duan Ying-Ying 6-1, 6-3 on Day 4. The Czech Pliskova beat American Bethanie Mattek-Sands in last year's Kuala Lumpur finale.
Pliskova's next opponent will be Turkey's Cagla Buyukakcay, who beat Slovenian Tadeja Majeric 6-4, 6-4.
Friday's other quarterfinals will pit second-seeded Chinese Zhang Shuai against Poland's Magda Linette and fourth-seeded Austrian Patricia Mayr- Achleitner versus seventh-seeded Croat Donna Vekic. Zhang got past wild card and fellow Chinese Ling Zhang 6-3, 4-6, 6-0, while Vekic vaulted past Kristyna Pliskova, the twin sister of the reigning Kuala Lumpur titlist Karolina, 1-6, 6-3, 7-5.
This week's winner will earn $43,000.
