Legislators, Officials Want Further Study into Searsport Dredging

AUGUSTA - 14 years ago, Congress asked the Maine DOT and Army Corps of Engineers to look at ways to improve Searsport harbor.  A proposal was formed to dredge the entry to the Penobscot River to allow larger boats to navigate, but the idea of enlarging the entrance created concerns from Searsport and the Islesboro Islands Trust. Now, there may be a better alternative.

Manslaughter arrest

A Skowhegan man has been arrested on manslaughter charges.

Authorities say 37 year old Mark Bussell was intoxicated when his pickup truck crossed the center line in November.

He ended up striking an oncoming vehicle resulting in the death of 67 year old James Murphy of Starks.

An arrest warrant was issued soon after Bussell was indicted on charges of manslaughter and aggravated oui.

Bussell was arrested this week and taken to the Somerset County Jail where bail was set at $2, 500 cash.
