2014 Garden Show and Spring Fling

BANGOR - With the snow finally beginning to melt it's now time to get outdoors and start working on your garden or outdoors projects, and the Bangor Daily News' "Garden Show and Spring Fling" has plenty of ideas for you.

Governor's energy plan defeated

State lawmakers have rejected the governors idea of how to help residents buy updated heating equipment.

The Maine House today rejected a bill that would take some of the money generated from timber harvesting on public lands and use to help people buy heat pumps and other heating gear.

The Senate rejected the same measure yesterday.

Governor Lepage says the state should be doing everything it can to help people lower their utility bills.

Environmental groups are opposed to the idea of increasing the timber harvest because they feel it could lead to overcutting the state's forests.

Vigil for Ayla Reynolds

The mother of Ayla Reynolds says she'll hold a birthday vigil tonight.

The toddler was in her fathers care in December of 2011 when she disapeared from a Waterville home.

Police believe she was the victim of foul play and they dont believe she is still alive.

Her mother Trista Reynolds, wants the vigil in Biddeford to be a celebration of her life and not a somber event.

It's expected to be the final public event organized by Reynolds who asked prosecutors last month to press charges against Justin Dipietro--ayla's father.
